I Got Engaged on New Years Eve in DC

This New Years Eve in DC was so much fun. My boyfriend Sean and I planned to go to some parties and then celebrate the countdown alone drinking incredible champagne. Usually we got too drunk at parties and by midnight it's been far from romantic. I mean, who wants to ring in the New Year with someone throwing up right next to you? Not us!
We live together in a small apartment in Georgetown. We started getting ready early because the first party we were attending started at 8:00p.m. It was thrown by one of his co-workers who rented out a lounge. There were over 200 people there and it was a bit overwhelming for me because I didn't know anyone. Sean could see I was uncomfortable and bored so we headed off to a part thrown by one of my friends. I knew my dc new years' eve would improve once we got there.
Transportation is a big problem on New Years Eve in DC. It's impossible to get a taxi and where we were going was not Metro accessible. We ended up having to walk almost two miles in the cold. I was wearing my high heels and was in agony. At one point I took my shoes off and walked with just my stockings on the cold pavement.
When we finally arrived at the party I was exhausted and not really enjoying my new years d.c. The party ended up being a lot of fun. Of course I accepted the ring and was now officially engaged! At the stroke of midnight we sipped our champagne in front of the fireplace and were both as happy as we've ever been. New Years Eve in DC was a turning point in our lives. It was the best New Year's Eve I've ever had!
